The HOVER app is usually pretty straightforward — until it suddenly isn’t. Guest Mode asks for something unexpected, your verification code decides to take a vacation, or you find yourself hunting through the app for a tutorial you swear was there yesterday.
Sound familiar? You’re in the right place.
Guest Mode Has a New Rule — Here's the Why and the How
Ever had a moment where the HOVER app suddenly seems to have a mind of its own? Maybe a feature you used to love is locked, Guest Mode is asking for something unexpected, or you’re wondering why you can’t activate your device.
Don’t worry — you’re probably not doing anything wrong.
With the latest firmware update, Guest Mode comes with one small change: before you can activate your device, the app now asks you to link a phone number or email address. No link, no activation — and a couple of features will stay locked until you do.
Before vs. After You Link
| What you want to do | Guest Mode, not linked | Linked and activated |
| Open HOVER settings | ❌ | ✅ |
| Fly in Hand Control Mode | ❌ | ✅ |
| Enjoy full device features | ❌ Limited | ✅ All yours |
Why Do We Ask for It?
That email address or phone number isn’t just another box to check.
Linking your account helps connect the device to you, gives you control over your account information, and makes things like firmware updates and future support much smoother. It also helps us make sure your device and account stay properly connected when you need help down the road.
Think of it as putting a name tag on your device before the adventure begins.
How to Activate Your Device
It only takes a few steps:
- Open the HOVER app and sign in as a guest.
- When you activate your device — or the first time you try HOVER settings and so on— the app will ask you to link a phone number or email address.
- Enter a valid phone number or email address and complete the verification.
- That’s it! Your device is activated, and the available features are unlocked.
Just follow the prompts in the app as they appear — they’ll guide you through each step.
Already Been Flying With Us?
If HOVER settings or Hand Control Mode suddenly stopped working right after a firmware update, there’s a good chance this new Guest Mode requirement is the reason — rather than a bug.
Check whether your device recently updated while you were still using Guest Mode without a linked phone number or email address. In most cases, linking one and completing verification is all it takes to get things working again.
And if that verification code decides not to show up?
Keep reading. We’ve got that covered next.
Verification Codes & Logins — What to Do When the App Plays Hard to Get
You tapped “Send Code.”
And then… nothing.
No email. No text. Just silence.
It happens. Before you hit that button ten more times, try these five quick checks.
Try These First
- Double-check what you entered. One tiny typo can send your verification code somewhere you definitely don’t want it to go. If you’re using a phone number, make sure the country code is correct, too.
- Waiting for an email? Check Spam or Junk. Verification emails have a habit of hiding where you least expect them. While you’re there, make sure the email address you’re checking is the same one you entered during registration.
- Waiting for an SMS? Check your phone’s filters. Your phone’s security settings, spam filter, or messaging app may have quietly intercepted the message. Take a quick look there before trying again.
- Check your connection. A shaky network can get in the way of verification. Try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data, then request the code again.
- Give the resend button a break. Verification codes are limited to 5 per day. So if you’ve already requested several codes, repeatedly tapping “Send Again” won’t help — it may just get you to the limit faster.
About That 5-Time Code Limit
The 5-per-day limit is a security measure designed to help protect your account. Once you reach the daily limit, you won’t be able to request additional verification codes until the counter resets.
The good news? It’s not permanent.
The limit resets at midnight in your local time, so you’ll have a fresh set of attempts the next day.
Still Locked Out? Let’s Get a Human Involved.
If you’ve tried the steps above and still can’t log in, or the app keeps showing an error, reach out to us at support@hoverair.com.
To help us get to the bottom of it faster, please include:
- The phone number or email address you registered or linked
- Your device model, such as HOVERAir X1 PRO / PROMAX, AQUA, etc.
- Your HOVER app version
- A description of what happened — and, if possible, a screenshot of the error
The more context you give us, the less time we need to spend playing detective.
Quick Cheat Sheet
| What’s happening | Your first move |
| No verification code arriving | Check Spam/Junk or your SMS filters, and make sure you haven’t reached the 5-per-day limit |
| Can’t log in or login shows an error | Double-check your account details and network connection, then contact support if the issue continues |
| HOVER settings / Hand Control Mode suddenly locked | Link your phone number or email address and complete activation — see the Guest Mode section above |
Psst — There’s a Flight School Inside Your App
Here’s something you might have missed: the HOVER app has its own built-in Tutorial section, packed with short guides for many of those “Okay… but how do I actually do this?” moments.
Whether you’re getting started with a new device or just need a quick refresher, there’s a good chance the answer is already waiting inside the app.
What You’ll Find There
Device care: Learn how to take care of your device after flying — including things like giving your AQUA a proper rinse after a session. Yes, it really does need a bath.
Accessories: Need help pairing or flying with accessories like the Beacon + Joystick? You’ll find guides to help you get set up.
Flight & shooting modes: Not sure what a particular mode does or how to get the most out of it? The tutorials walk you through the different flight and shooting options.
Where to Find It
Depending on where you are in your HOVER journey, you can find the tutorials in either of these places:
For existing users: Community > Tutorial
Just getting started: Me > Beginner Tutorial
That’s it.
One Last Tip
The next time you catch yourself thinking, “Okay, but how does this feature actually work?” — take a quick look in the Tutorial section before going down the internet rabbit hole.
There may already be a guide waiting for you.
Now go fly. We’ll handle the how-to part.
